For Tuesday, we will be using the cubes.  You will be writing your own rap about 3 or 4 industrialists.  You will get the information from the cubes.  The most important thing is that you chose a theme for your rap.

Let's learn about John Rockefeller by watching a 10 min. movie about his life.

1.  Choose a robber baron at random.  (You are going to draw out of a hat.)
2.  Get the cube assignment from Ms. G.
3.  Find biographical information about your subject.
4.  Cut out your cube pattern.
5.  Glue your facts to the cube.
6.  Glue your cube together.

Hey guys!  Happy Monday!  I am not doing so well today and may not be as happy as usual this week.  My dog, that I had for 14 years, died on Sunday night and I am super sad.  I am pretty much on the edge of tears at all times.  I don't want to talk about it because I will cry.  I am telling you this to ask you to please be nice to me this week because I am not doing well.  Please understand and I am sharing this with you because I trust you that you will be good to me this week when I am so sad.  Thanks.

Discuss with your partner, what these tall tales might really be trying to say. Be prepared to tell the rest of the class what you think, in the last 15 minutes, because we will be having a discussion.
When you and your partner have come up with some ideas and you have some time, brainstorm an idea you have that you would like to write your own tall tale about.

What criteria does your tall tale have to have?

  • has to have a main character who does amazing things
  • has to make the Old West look exciting to people reading your tall tale!
